Members-Only Recording: Discussion with Wisconsin DATCP Health Inspector, Craig Kratcha

2026 brings new legislation and regulations to short-term rentals across Wisconsin, and staying ahead of these changes is more important than ever.

Sign in to watch the exclusive members-only virtual session with Craig Kratcha, RS, Environmental Health Sanitarian with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).

Craig answered member questions regarding the new Wisconsin Administrative Code ATCP 72, which officially took effect on January 25, 2026 and impact all tourist rooming houses (short-term rentals) in the State of Wisconsin.

This is a valuable opportunity to hear directly from the state about what has changed, how it affects your property, and what you need to do to remain compliant and pass your next state safety inspection with confidence.

A few of the updates to the code include:

  • All sleeping rooms must have a diagram showing two "approved" exits.
  • If the property is served by a well, you are now required to provide clean water test results for bacteria (E. coli and coliform) and nitrates.

Whether you're a seasoned host or new to the industry, this is an important conversation to stay informed, prepared, and ahead of evolving regulations.
